The Southside of the Island

Section 1: Charlottetown to Dunedin – 21KM / 13MI
Start your walk in Charlottetown, the Birthplace of Confederation and home to the lovely Victoria Park Boardwalk and so much more. Head out towards Waypoint 1 in Dunedin. Stop at the Milky Way and enjoy lunch, ice cream, coffee, chocolates and craft beer. At the end of section 1 there are no amenities, but the transit bus stop is 1.8km away at the New Haven Esso Station and OH Victoria accommodation partner offers some transportation options.

Section 2: Dunedin to Victoria – 24KM / 15MI
As you make your way from Dunedin to the seaside community of Victoria, walk down two of the most beautiful and quietest red dirt roads on PEI: Rebokary Lane & Ferguson Road. Victoria is a charming seaside village straight out of a storybook that is home to a chocolate factory, theatre, pottery shop, and some of the Island’s most delicious restaurants.

SECTION 3: Victoria to Borden-Carleton – 20KM / 12.4MI
You’ll head onward to Borden-Carleton, where you will see The Confederation Bridge, one of the most memorable sights of your walk. The Confederation Bridge opened in 1997 and is the longest bridge in Canada and the longest bridge in the world over ice-covered water (13 km).

Section 4: Borden-Carleton to Summerside – 25KM / 15.5MI
The next day will take you by picturesque farms and fields through the small Island communities of North Carleton and Central Bedeque. Stop in at the PEI Fox Den and Kool Breeze Ice Cream Barn and their garden centre before heading into PEI’s second-largest city, Summerside. Take in the fresh salt air at the Summerside Harbour and grab a coffee and a snack at Samuel’s Coffee House. Be sure to visit Holman’s Ice Cream Parlour in the city’s centre and treat yourself to homemade gourmet ice cream, decadent desserts, and old-fashioned hand crafted sodas. There are a number of places to stay for the night in Summerside.
