Explore the Western PEI Region. If you’re drawn to the natural beauty and serenity of the Western PEI region, you’re in for a treat.
The Western region, often affectionately referred to by Islanders as “Up West,” is less traveled and offers a more remote, untouched experience. Here, the trails stretch out in long, scenic passages with plenty of quiet moments for reflection and nature immersion.
The trail offers a variety of landscapes, from the iconic red sandstone cliffs and sprawling sand dunes to the unique marshlands. Be sure to visit the Black Marsh Trail, which is a highlight of this section, showcasing the area’s diverse ecosystems. The North Cape, where the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence meet the Northumberland Strait, is also a must-see destination with stunning views that stretch across the sea.
Since the Western PEI region is more remote, it’s important to plan your trip well. Some sections can be quite long, so be sure to prepare accordingly for longer stretches without easy access to water or bathrooms. Luckily, there are charming small towns scattered along the route where you can take a break, rest, and recharge.
