Best time to visit
While the weather on Prince Edward Island can be unpredictable in any season, the Island Walk is at its best from May to October. We strongly encourage you to plan ahead and by that we mean months ahead. PEI is a tourism destination and July and August sell out quickly. Rates are also higher in those two months just like many vacation destinations. Think about coming outside those times when the weather is also more comfortable for walking.

May & June
Early May can be cool, especially in the mornings. Some days the temperature will be close to 0 degrees, but from mid-May on, some days can see highs of up to 16°C. June is generally warm but can be rainy. The weather varies in May and June on PEI so it’s recommended to pack for extra layers to accommodate the varying temperatures.
July & August
July and August are peak tourism months on PEI so accommodations may be difficult to find. We strongly recommend you plan ahead. In terms of weather, July and August are warm and parts of the trail are sheltered with trees. There is no doubt that there’ll be mosquitos so bug spray is a necessary item to have with you in your pack.

September
September can still be quite warm but can see cooler temperatures, especially in the early morning. It’s recommended to pack for extra layers to accommodate the varying temperatures.
October
October will require more layers for warmth and a jacket to protect yourself from the potential of rain. It’s recommended to pack for extra layers to accommodate the varying temperatures. In October, walkers will be able to enjoy the fall foliage which is quite beautiful.
