Kensington to Bayview

24 km, 8 to 10 hours, rated easy to moderate. Mostly flat terrain with some moderate hills near Long River.

Start your walk in Kensington where you will find  the Kensington Railway Station, a National Historic Site of Canada and where Montgomery met Sir John and Lady Macdonald. The train station also hosts the Island Stone Pub, home of some of the Island’s best fish tacos.

This walk will take you though picturesque farmland and meandering rivers until you arrive at the small village of New London. The village has a wharf and is where Montgomery was born. Her birthplace is open to the public so build in some time to drop in. The Village Pottery shop has wonderful pottery and other crafts made by island artisans. If you are lucky, you will bump into George Dowdle, an oyster fisher with many tales to tell. You could take a break in this village and immerse yourself in the culinary world of Marilla Cuthbert from the beloved Anne of Green Gables novels.  What types of foods would Marilla have made for Anne and Matthew?  Using the Anne novels and L.M. Montgomery’s own cookbook as inspiration The Table Culinary Studio delves into Island history and you can create a delicious meal of traditional PEI recipes worthy of Marilla’s table.

Onward to Stanley Bridge, another wonderful fishing village.
