Hiring: Social Media Marketing Intern

Location: Prince Edward Island (primarily remote with some on-site travel)
Term: 16 weeks (May 18 – September 4)
Hours: Full-time 40hrs/week
Wage: $20/hr

Position Overview

The Island Walk is seeking a motivated summer student to assist with social media management and digital content creation to help promote Prince Edward Island’s Island Walk experience. The student will help create engaging online content that highlights the scenic beauty, communities, and partner businesses located along the Island Walk route. The role will provide hands-on experience in digital marketing, tourism promotion, photography, video production, and social media strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Management

  • Assist with managing and growing the Island Walk’s presence on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
  • Create engaging posts, reels, and stories that highlight the Island Walk experience
  • Share and amplify content from Island Walk partners and local businesses
  • Respond to messages or comments when required and maintain an active online presence

Content Creation

  • Capture photo and video content along the Island Walk route
  • Create engaging visual content that showcases landscapes, communities, and walking experiences
  • Edit photos and videos using social media editing tools and apps
  • Assist with maintaining a consistent visual style and storytelling approach

Content Strategy

  • Develop a content plan and posting schedule
  • Identify relevant social media trends and apply them to Island Walk content
  • Generate creative ideas that encourage people to learn about and experience the walk

Partner Engagement

  • Work with Island Walk partners and local businesses to highlight accommodations, services, and experiences available along the route
  • Share partner content and support cross-promotion efforts

Administrative and Reporting Tasks

  • Track basic social media performance metrics (reach, engagement, followers)
  • Assist with organizing digital content files and maintaining a content library
  • Participate in regular check-ins with the supervisor to review progress and plan upcoming content

Qualifications

  • Current post-secondary student in marketing, communications, photography, tourism, media, or a related field
  • Strong interest in social media, digital storytelling, and content creation
  • Basic photography and video editing skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in Prince Edward Island’s tourism industry and outdoor recreation

Preferred Assets

  • Experience creating social media content for a brand or organization
  • Familiarity with tourism marketing or destination storytelling
  • Access to a smartphone or camera capable of high-quality photo/video capture
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel along sections of the Island Walk
