A pilgrimage on P.E.I.: My trip to see the new 700-kilometre Island Walk was a lesson in the power of slow travel

What is it about lighthouses that we’re so drawn to? “Look!” I exclaim to my husband with glee, pointing to the white and red tower perched on a craggy headland in the distance. Whether the structures simply make for a pretty postcard scene or evoke some deeper, subconscious sense of safe harbour, I’m delighted to spot one at the end of our day’s trek along a red-sand beach on Prince Edward Island’s Island Walk.
