Section 7

Section 6: Portage

McNeil’s  Mills to O’Leary

23 km, 7 to 9 hours, rated easy to moderate. Flat terrain.

Confederation Trail walking through some small communities. Pass through Portage, the narrowest part of PEI (less than one km wide). Interesting fact: the PEI government has designated this section of the Confederation Trail an alternate public road if the TCH is blocked in an emergency.

You will continue along the Confederation Trail north of McNeill’s Mills and pass through Portage on your way to O’Leary. It’s not apparent when looking at a map, but Portage is the narrowest part of the Island and is less than one kilometre wide! A packed lunch is recommended for this section as there will be no eating establishments until you get to O’Leary.
